Background and Purpose of the Conference

Kenya’s development blue print, Vision 2030, envisions a transformation into a newly industrialized middle-income country providing a high quality life to its citizens.  The Kenya Vision 2030 recognizes Science, Technology and Innovation (ST&I) as the bedrock for the three pillars (economic, social and political) for national development. The National Council for Science and Technology (NCST) as the lead agency in promotion of ST&I through administration of research grants and organization of  annual conferences for dissemination of research results and exhibition of innovations in the country.

This year’s conference is targeting policy makers, scholars, academicians, scientists, entrepreneurs, innovators, research and development workers, and other end-users of technologies. Beneficiaries of NCST Research and Innovations grants will be expected to present their findings. The objectives of the conference are, one, to provide a platform for policy makers, researchers and academicians to share experiences in ST&me; two, to showcase Kenya’s; three, to benchmark Kenya against other countries in ST&me; four, to disseminate research findings.

At least eight (8) local and foreign key note speakers (renowned scholars, entrepreneurs, policy makers) will be invited for the conference which will involve research paper presentations, display of innovations and other research products, round table discussions, and science cafes. The topics will cover current issues on application of ST&me for agriculture, environment, human health and nutrition, energy, water and sanitation, industrial manufacturing and infrastructure development. Cross-cutting topics on human capacity development, Effective Partnerships, Linkages and Networking, Policy development for ST&I and the New Constitution will be also be discussed. Among the key note speakers who have been invited include Prof. Orskov, UK, Prof. Liang Boo, and Malaysia among others.
